Vision

The vision of the Department of Personality-Development Skills at the Deanship of Preparatory Year and Supportive Studies is to develop all the aspects of students' personality through its programs.

Mission

The Department is committed to cultivate among students good personality traits like, care and affection, effective communication skills, knowledge and ability to conduct research, a vision in compliance with the vision and mission of the Deanship of Preparatory Year and Supportive Studies. Thus, we nurture students' psychological and social make-up for integration in their future like in the community.

Objectives

The Department has determined objectives to-

  • Inculcate among students the habit of effective communication, among themselves and with others at the university and outside;
  • Encourage students to master the skills needed to conduct research on various projects consistent with set scientific standers;
  • Advance numerous talents of students so that they are competent and creative in learning and in practical life;
  • Inspire students to get acquainted with different modes of thought;
  • Help  students get adapted to the university environment and to positively and effectively participate in different activities at the university and outside.

 

General objective:      

The department seeks to prepare distinguished students in thinking, learning, research, communication, writing, and computer skills. It also aims to develop their capabilities and their scientific and professional skills.

Mission:

  • It carries out the approved plans and programs.
  • It trains students to use learning skills.
  • It develops students' research awareness and trains them to prepare for scientific research.
  • It develops students' thinking skills to be used in scientific and practical life.
  • It backs up students with the skill of preparing reports and presentations on research and projects.
  • It trains students on communication skills inside and outside the university environment.
  • It raises the level of health awareness among students through their participation in preventive programs and sports activities.
  • It develops students' skills to write grammatically and spell correctly, and employs them in their university studies and their practical life.
  • It supports students with the skills to establish an entrepreneurial project.
  • It encourages community service programs, whether it is inside or outside the university.
  • It works on determining the department's needs of human resources, equipment and materials, and following up on their provision.
  • It participates in identifying the training needs of the department's employees to nominate them for the appropriate training programs.
  • It prepares periodic reports on the department's activities, achievements, and suggestions for developing performance therein.
  • Any other tasks assigned to the department within the limits of its competence

Progress and prosperity of societies depend upon developing their human resource  through discovering its competence and applying that to serve the society. This is the goal our department, Department of Personality-Development Skills at the Deanship of Preparatory Year and Supportive Studies, has set for itself. We strive for a positive contribution towards full personality development of our students with traits like, knowledge, positive attitude and skills that are essential in their student life and in future as well.

Since a good personality with traits like, respect for others and positive thinking, plays a vital role in human communication, it becomes a necessity for university students if they wish to succeed in practical, social life. Keeping that in view, the Department of Personality-Development Skills has taken up the challenging task of inculcating in the students the habits of discovery, realizing their full potentials and the art of effective inter-personal communication, whether inside or outside the university, or in professional life, so that they fulfill the expectations of their homeland.

Academic Programs in the Department :

The academic program at the Department of Personality-Development Skills at the Deanship is aimed at preparing university students to be significant social contributors with good knowledge, academic background, research experience, thinking and communication skills.

The program at the Department is comprised of two courses: Communication Skills (COMM101) and Thinking Research Skills (IS101). In both the courses the student takes two recursive exams and training in practical and applied side in each course in a semester, followed by final exam at the end of the semester.

Communication Skills (1002-101)

    The course aims to help  the students -

  • Recognize the concepts of communication, its decency, importance, efficiency, and factors;
  • Recognize personality patterns in his community based on communication with people, to specify appropriate methods and strategies to deal with people with varying personalities;
  • Enhance the skills of listening, understanding and empathy;
  • Master non-linguistic communication and apply it successfully in communication;
  • Build correct, accurate and effective messages in communication;
  • Conduct successful personal interviews and social and official talks;
  • Speak confidently and fluently in front of masses;
  • Write technical articles in a professional manner;
  • Write professional summaries;
  • Prepare his CV, and market himself;
  • Design presentations.

 

Thinking Research Skills (1002-102)

     The course aims to help the Students -

  • Develop the skill to use library and internet for research;
  • Develop the skills to write research and technical documents;
  • Use numerous effective and real facilities and strategies that help them to acquire knowledge, organize that knowledge and recall it quickly;
  • Have self-management in psychological, mental communication abilities in a way that it leads them to success, superiority and creativity;
  • Develop thinking and problem-solving skills, generally faced in studies at the university and social life.

The Department of Personality-Development Skills at the Deanship of Preparatory Year and Supportive Studies provides specialized courses and workshops serving students, faculty, staff and employees in the areas of personality-development skills and enables them to get a certificate of attendance, at all the branches of the university, at Arar, Rafha and Turaif.
